Our work, carried out in collaboration with colleagues from Imperial College London (Prof. Julian R. Jones), IMDEA Materials (Dr. Mª Teresa Pérez-Prazo and Dr. Xueze Jin), and the University of Vigo (Dr. Ramón [Surname]), on laser-guided corrosion control was selected as the cover article of Volume 17, Issue 18 of the prestigious journal Small. In this study, we demonstrate the capability of laser treatment to precisely guide corrosion in magnesium components. This work opens the possibility of designing implants with tailored degradation profiles, adapted to different tissue requirements and environmental conditions, as well as developing new magnesium batteries and intelligent magnesium anodes for cathodic protection.

Our work, carried out in collaboration with colleagues from CNRS, ESPCI Paris–PSL University, and Sorbonne Université (Sorbonne Paris Cité), on water harvesting using laser-textured surfaces was selected as the cover article of Volume 37, Issue 18 of the prestigious journal Advanced Materials. This study demonstrates a 70% increase in collected dew water compared to a state-of-the-art reference material over a one-year outdoor study. This improvement arises from the synergy between the properties of the laser-micropatterned metallic surfaces and the specific requirements of radiative cooling–driven dew condensation applications, particularly in terms of emissivity and wettability.
